UCC SAN certificate from SwissSign

With the technologies of Unified Communications & Collaboration (UCC) Microsoft provides simplified communication across different applications. The simplification of the communication channels also means particular requirements in terms of secure data exchange within the UCC servers, however. Standard SSL certificates are suitable only for securing individual domains or sub-domains. As a special form of SSL certificate the UCC certificate therefore contains an extension which allows several so-called “Subject Alternative Names” (SANs). These SANs can consist of prefixes (sub-domains), host names and private IP addresses. The UCC certificate therefore enables several SANs to be secured with one single certificate. The SwissSign UCC SAN certificate is already available from CHF 399 per year with a 5-year period of validity. Info and order at: www.swisssign.com/ucc

Post SuisseID News

Successful start for Post SuisseID
On 3 May 2010 Swiss Post’s tried and tested PostCertificate became the Post SuisseID.

Visit the website www.post.ch/suisseid, a lot of advantages await:

  • The Post SuisseID is now also available as a smart card with card reader
  • Shop with a still simple and visualised order process

In addition to the launch there have been various advertisements in newspapers, magazines and also online banners on well-known websites. Have you perhaps already seen the new market appearance of the Post SuisseID?

The Federal Government is subsidising the SuisseID with CHF 65.00. The offer is valid in 2010 and only until its subsidies have been used up. Post SuisseID customers also benefit from free support. Electronic proof of identity SuisseID – The Swiss Post is a recognised provider

SuisseIDDuring the third stage of economic stabilisation measures, the Federal Council resolved to accelerate the introduction of the SuisseID. In Switzerland the SuisseID is the first standardised product for secure electronic proof of identity. Transactions can be concluded from private individuals to companies, between companies and from citizens to the administration directly via the Internet.

With its subsidiary SwissSign, the Swiss Post is in the list of recognised providers of certification services according to the Swiss Electronic Signature Act (ZertES). At the moment standard definitions are being discussed for the Suisse ID, and SwissSign is heavily involved here too. Any natural person will then be able to acquire the SuisseID in the spring of 2010 from SwissSign.

The Swiss Post will offer SwissPostCertificate users the opportunity of upgrading to the SuisseID. You will find out more on this at the start of next year.

You will find further information on the SuisseID at: www.kmu.admin.ch/suisseid/index.html?lang=de

IncaMail News

IncaMail is the first recognised platform for administrative proceedings

Amt_fuer_Informatik_GRrecognised platform for administrative proceedings
The information platform IncaMail from the Swiss Post has just been recognised as the first and only platform for electronic handling of administrative proceedings. Via IncaMail, authorities can therefore now send corresponding decrees safely by e-mail and if necessary can also send these registered with confirmation of dispatch and receipt.

Based on this acknowledgement, Graubünden has become the first canton to decide to introduce the e-mail platform IncaMail for secure communication. In the canton of Graubünden IncaMail is integrated directly into Outlook and now makes it possible for different administrative authorities in the canton to send encrypted mails and registered electronic messages.

You can read the entire report at: www.incamail.ch/news

Electronic petitions via IncaMail directly in JURIS

AbraxasAbraxas Juris AG relies on IncaMail for its electronic communication. The platform of the Swiss Post for sending secure and verifiable emails is now being integrated into JURIS, the standard application for organs of the legal system.

The background to the integration is the decree being discussed at the Federal Office of Justice which will mean that from 1.1.2011 courts and different authorities will be obliged to receive and handle petitions electronically. Thanks to the integration, courts working with JURIS can easily fulfil the requirements of the Federal Office of Justice for secure electronic transmission and at the same time prevent media disruptions when handling these petitions.

Insurance card – SwissSign provides certificates

The Federal Council has passed the decree on insurance cards. The insurance card started being issued in the course of 2008. From the start of 2010 all insured people must then present the card when they are given treatment or services by doctors, hospitals or pharmacies and want this to be settled by the health insurance company.

The insurance card bears the name and the new insurance number of the insured person – imprinted legibly and stored electronically on a chip like an ID card. To help guarantee the security of electronic data, insurance companies have opted for the certificates from SwissSign. We will publish the names of these health insurance companies in an upcoming newsletter as soon as the insurance cards are on the market.

You will find further information on the insurance card at: http://www.bag.admin.ch/themen/krankenversicherung/07060/index.html

SwissPostCertificate - SuisseID News

The SuisseID of the Post – now used as a SwissPostCertificate

suisseidlogo

As you already found out in the last newsletter, the Swiss Post has been entered in the list of recognised SuisseID providers with its subsidiary SwissSign.

The Swiss Post will be the biggest provider of the SuisseID. The Post SuisseID will be available in three different forms. In the most simple version as a card with a chip, and somewhat more practical as an integrative component of a USB reader. In the comfort version the SuisseID is an integral component of a mobile USB stick on which applications for the SuisseID can be stored.

The SwissStick which SwissSign is now already offering is a unique solution which combines the digital identity and signature on a USB stick with different applications. On the SwissStick of the Post, which will also be offered with SuisseID in the course of the year, there are various applications which provide access to electronic Post services. This includes IncaMail, the registered electronic letter of the Post. Or also Swiss Post Box, the electronic mailbox in which users receive their physical mail sent electronically.

The SwissPostCertificate is becoming the Post SuisseID and will be available from the Post at the start of May. Users of the current SwissPostCertificate will be able to upgrade to the SuisseID. You will find out more on this at the start of May.

In the meantime at www.post.ch/suisseid you will find the current information.

Apple iPad supports SwissSign certificates

Apple iPad is supporting SwissSign certificates right from the start and shows these as trusted. This means that in terms of the distribution of its root certificates SwissSign remains one of the leading certificate authorities worldwide: www.swisssign.com/compatibility

SwissSign certificates with 2048 bit key length

To endeavour to provide our customers with maximum possible security, from 27 March 2010 SwissSign will be issuing all certificates with a key length of at least 2048 bit. From this point it will no longer be possible to acquire certificates with key lengths of 1024 bit. Already issued certificates are not affected by this restriction. If you use our certificates together with a SecureMail gateway, we recommend that you make the corresponding setting on your gateway.

Insurance card – VK Plus project

SwissSign provides the health insurance companies in Switzerland with certificates, technology and production processes for the new insurance cards.

karte

As well as the well-known magnetic strip, the card also contains a chip on which the insured people can store medical data such as blood group or allergies. Only doctors and chemists can load this data onto the chip and read it there. The chip contains certificates from SwissSign which represent an “electronic identity” of the patient and therefore enable secure eHealth applications.

The production and first delivery of the insurance card took place in January 2010. This means SwissSign successfully produced and provided more than 1,660,000 certificates within just one month. And the production is continuing, in the coming weeks another 200,000 insurance cards will be distributed to the customers of Helsana.

Support for software developers and eHealth providers in Switzerland

As the technology supplier of the insurance card, SwissSign provides software manufacturers and eHealth providers in Switzerland and abroad with implementation instructions for the insurance card.

SwissSign is therefore creating transparency on the market and providing support for the introduction of the new standard. This means all actors involved in the eHealth market can develop partial components for the entire “insurance card” system. These components can be integrated easily and efficiently in the system.

The costs reduced in this manner create a wide offer of available applications which enhance the service and benefits for the patient and lower the costs in the healthcare system on a lasting basis.

The secure electronic mailbox Swiss Post Box is the equivalent of the physical mailbox: Swiss Post Box guarantees simple access to the physical mail at all times and from any location.

The physical mail is scanned without being opened and is sent by e-mail as an image (front of envelope). The recipient can decide what to do with the unopened envelope for every letter:

  • Confidentially open and scan the letter content with the highest security measures so it can be read online
  • Forward the closed mail to any chosen address
  • Recycle the letter
  • Shred the letter or destroy it
  • Archive the content for a chosen duration or as long as the law demands this. Important documents can be archived for up to a year after the death of the person in possession.
